Crafts for Mother’s Day
Nothing beats a hand-crafted gift on Mother's Day and these craft ideas are perfect expressions of love.
Bookmarks
Materials:
- Construction paper
- Glue and glitter glue
- Hole punch
- Child's photo
- Ribbon or leather cording
- Markers or crayons
- Scissors
- Beads
Cut a piece of construction paper about 2" wide and 6" long. This will form the base of the bookmark.
Have your child decorate the front and back of the bookmark with drawings, personal messages, glitter, stickers, etc. They can also glue on a photo of themselves.
Once dry, take the finished bookmark to a copy centre or printing shop to have it laminated. (Note: this isn't necessary but will help protect it)
Punch a hole in the top of the bookmark and attach ribbons or leather strips.
Add beads to each ribbon or leather strip.
Personalized Aprons
Materials:
- Plain white apron
- Cardboard
- Sponges
- Fabric paint
- Paint brushes
- Stamps
Purchase a simple, plain white apron.
Place apron on a table, with a piece of cardboard underneath.
Have children decorate the apron with fabric paint.
Children can paint pictures, make hand/foot prints or write messages.
Alternatively, purchase a transfer iron-on kit from a business supply store. Children can then make a drawing on the computer, adding photos of themselves, which can be printed onto transfer paper. An adult will have to iron on the transfer.
Fancy Flower Pots
Materials:
- Paint brushes, sponges, stamps
- Mod Podge
- Unglazed clay flower pot
- Acrylic paints
- Seeds or small house plant
- Potting soil
Have children decorate an unglazed clay flower pot using acrylic paints. They can paint free-hand images and words, or use stamps or sponges.
Alternatively, children can make also make collages on the flower pots using Mod Podge. Collages can be made using cut-outs from magazines, photos, wallpaper scraps, etc.
When the paint or glue is dry, cover the whole pot with Mod Podge to protect it.
Finally, fill pot with soil and add seeds or a plant.
