Fun and Funky Picture Frames

Homemade frames, filled with photos or artwork make great gifts and are a wonderful way to show off your child's creativity.

This simple frame is a great way to make something fun and functional while using up materials you have lying around your house.

Recycled Frames

Materials:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • White glue (or hot glue)
  • Scissors
  • Recycled objects

Make the frame by cutting two matching cardboard shapes (circles, square, heart, etc.). Frames can be any size, but need to be at least larger than the photo. Next, cut a window from one of the shapes, making it slightly smaller than the photo. Glue the two pieces together along three sides, leaving the top open.

Decorate the frame using recycled objects from home, such as:

  • Puzzle pieces (painted solid colours or as is)
  • Small toys (plastic animals, Lego)
  • Game pieces (dice, Monopoly pieces)
  • Buttons

When dry, insert your photo through the open edge.

Notes:

  • To hang frames, simply glue a piece of string or ribbon to the top two corners, or attach magnets to the back.
  • Ideas for decorating materials: markers, pom-poms, wool, ribbon, raffia, foam shapes, crayons, beads, buttons, glitter, paint, fabric, pebbles, rocks, sand, jellybeans, candy, glitter, wallpaper scraps, feathers, stickers, stamps
