Hanukah Crafts
Help your children celebrate the Festival of Lights with these festive Hanukah crafts.
Stained Glass Menorah
Materials:
- Black construction paper
- Colour cellophane
- Tape or stick glue
- Markers
- Orange tissue paper
- Silver/gold glitter glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
Draw an outline of a menorah onto construction paper and cut it out. The menorah should have a wide base, as this will be the part that gets the stained-glass effect.
Cut small shapes or patterns out of the base of the menorah.
Place the menorah on a table with the front side down.
Tape or glue colourful pieces of cellophane (available at craft stores) onto the back of the menorah, individually covering each hole.
Turn the menorah over and trim off any excess cellophane.
Further decorate the front of the menorah using glitter glue.
Hang the menorah from a window to create the stained glass look.
Each night of Hanukah, tape a piece of crunched up orange tissue paper to the menorah to represent the flame of a candle.
The Dreidel Game
Each player starts the game with the same number of pennies or candies. Before the game begins, all players ante-up by placing one penny or candy into the "pot". Players take turns spinning the dreidel. If the dreidel lands on:
- HAY - the player takes half the pot
- GIMEL - the player takes all the pot
- NUN - the player does nothing
- SHIN - the player pays the pot one penny/candy
If the pot gets emptied all players must ante-up again. Play continues until everyone but the winner is out of pennies/candies.
