More Simple Halloween Costumes
Instead of spending money on a costume for a younger child who will only really trick or treat at a few houses, why not try making your own? These designs, based on characters that can be seen on Treehouse TV, are easy to make and sure to delight.
Loonette
Loonette, from The Big Comfy Couch, is another easy costume to put together. Purchase a bright pair of oversized overalls from a used clothing store. Shorten the overalls to knee length and sew on a 2" purple cuff (use ribbon or scrap fabric). Under the overalls, have your child wear a funky pair of striped tights and a long-sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt with a bright, playful pattern. Add a purple plastic bowler hat (found at most party stores) or put your child's hair into two high pony-tails. A red clown nose and a few eyebrow pencil freckles round out the costume.
Corduroy the Bear
Green overalls are in order, but improvise as needed. Of course, Corduroy's claim to fame was the missing button on his overalls, so be sure to remove a button from one of the overall straps. A tan or brown sweatshirt (worn inside-out to create a fuzzy fleece), some brown mittens and a brown hat round out the costume. Use construction paper to make Corduroy's ears and glue/sew them to the hat. Finally use a black eyebrow pencil to draw a bear's nose on the tip of your child's nose.
Note: To help keep the overalls from falling down, safety pin the button-less strap to the front of your child's sweatshirt.
