Ramadan Craft: Moon and Star Mobile
The crescent moon is a powerful image associated with Ramadan. Its sighting marks the end of the month of Shaban and the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr is then celebrated following the sighting of the next crescent moon.
Follow the instructions below to construct your own moon and star mobile.
Materials:
- Cardboard
- Hole punch
- Silver and gold and glitter glue
- Ribbon
- Fishing wire
- Scissors
- Silver and gold paint
Cut out a crescent moon from the cardboard.
Then, cut out three stars from the cardboard. Make each star a different shape, though all the stars should be smaller than the moon.
Use a hole punch to punch three holes evenly spaced along the base of the crescent moon.
Punch a fourth hole at the top of the moon.
Next, punch a hole at the top of each of the three stars.
Paint the moon silver and the stars gold (make sure to paint both sides).
When the paint is dry, add silver glitter glue the moon and gold glitter glue to the stars (again, make sure to decorate both sides). The glitter will help the mobile to shimmer brightly.
Tie the stars to the base of the moon using fishing wire. Mount each star at a different length.
Finally, loop a piece of ribbon and tie it to the top of the moon. Use the ribbon to hang the moon from the ceiling.
