Stained Glass Butterfly Magnets

This beautiful stained glass magnet will add colour and light to any refrigerator.

Stained Glass Butterfly Magnets

Materials:

  • Clear 2-litre pop bottle
  • Magnetic strips
  • Glue or hot glue
  • Delta Paint Jewels
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Scissors

Preparation: Empty, clean and dry a clear 2-litre pop bottle (don't forget to remove the paper). Then cut off the bottle top and bottom. Cut a slit down one side and unroll the bottle. Tape the unrolled plastic to the work surface, with the curls facing upward.

Have your child outline the shape of a butterfly and decorate it using Delta Paint Jewels (available from craft stores). These paints dry in transparent colours, giving the butterfly a stained glass effect. Let the paint dry and then cut out your butterfly. One pop bottle will make several butterflies, depending on their sizes.

Cut pipe cleaners into two small antennae and glue to top of butterfly. Finally, glue magnets to the back. When dry, butterflies flutter with curled wings across your fridge.
