Kiddie Band
A Summer Party Planner craft
KAZOO
Materials:
- Cardboard tube (toilet paper tube is best)
- Rubber Band
- Wax paper
Cut a round piece of wax paper that is larger than the ends of the tube.
Cover one end with the wax paper and hold in place with the rubber band.
Make sounds into the opposite end of the tube.
GUITAR
Materials:
- Shoebox
- Tape
- Rubber bands (varying thickness will create a wider variety of sounds)
- Scissors
Cut a round hole in the top of the shoebox.
Put the shoebox top back on the shoebox and tape shut.
Stretch a rubber band around the shoebox so that the band crosses over the hole you cut in the top of the box. Using varying widths and lengths of rubber bands will create different sounds and pitches.
Pluck or strum the rubber bands crossing the hole in the shoebox to create sounds.
PAPER PLATE SHAKERS
Materials:
- 2 paper plates
- Rice, dried beans and/or beads
- Tape or glue
- Crayons or other decorating supplies
- Streamers (optional)
Decorate the underside of each paper plate with crayons, markers or other decorating supplies like stickers.
Lying the first paper plate down on the table, place beans, rice or beads on the plate (you don't need that many to make a lot of sound).
Optional - place a few lengths of streamer so that the edges will hang down from the shaker.
Take the second paper plate and place it face down on top of the first paper plate.
Glue or tape the two plate edges together.
Once the tape is stuck or the glue dried shake the shakers to make noise.
XYLOPHONE
Materials:
- Drinking glasses
- Spoon, chopstick or other mallet-like utensil
Place the drinking glasses in a row.
Fill each on up with a different amount of water. Different water levels will create different notes (experiment with water levels to create a scale)
Strike the glass lightly with the spoon to create a note.
RAIN STICKS
Materials:
- Potato chip can
- 2 pop 6-pack plastic holders
- Dried beans, popcorn kernels
- Tape or glue
- Shoelace (optional)
- Fake feathers (optional)
- Construction paper, paint, stickers, felt or other decorating materials (optional)
Fold plastic 6-pack holders lengthwise and insert several into each can.
Pour in a handful of popcorn or dried beans into the can, adjusting the amounts until you find the sounds you like.
Seal the lid to the can using tape or glue.
Decorate the outside of the can using paint, felt, stickers or construction paper.
Tie the shoelace around the top of the can and feathers to the other end of the shoelace.
Tilt the rainstick back and forth slowly to hear the sound.
DRUMS
