Recycling Bin Crafts for Kids
This Earth Day, keep the kids busy, and be creative and environmentally friendly while doing it. These different items transform into easy, fun-to-make crafts that anyone can do. They can also become entertaining activities, rain or shine.
Toilet Paper Rolls
Toilet paper are incredibly versatile when it comes to easy kids’ crafts. Cut them down one side and flatten them slightly. Then, wrap them completely in aluminum foil. Decorate them with stickers and you have instant superhero bands or glamour bracelets. Turn the day into a fun fashion show by digging out old clothes for the kids to create costumes to match. Toilet rolls also transform into colorful binoculars with a little tissue paper (use different colors for each roll). Use elastic bands to secure the paper on the end of each roll then head outside to see what you can discover in the garden with your new binoculars.
Boxes
Old boxes, with the help of some markers, tape, tin foil, sponges and other odds and ends can transform into space ships, castles, forts and hours of fun. See what amazing creations come out of little imaginations.
T-Shirts
Have some t-shirts around that could use some new life? Pull out some fabric paint and let your kids transform them into fashions.
Cards
Take a pile of scrap paper and old magazines, add kid-safe scissors, non-toxic glue sticks, sparkles, stickers, washable markers and kids. Voila! You have your own greeting card factory. Help the kids make a list of their friends and family's upcoming birthdays.
Old Socks
Take a few old socks from the back of the clothes dryer and collect some of your spare buttons. With a bit of yarn and felt, the kids can create their own sock puppets. Help the kids sew buttons on for eyes and maybe a few details like hair, lips, a tongue or a hat. Then they can make a puppet theatre with a big box and make up their own plays to perform for you.
Discarded CDs
Old CDs can be transformed into decorated locker magnets as well. Felt, glue, fake jewels, stickers and a magnet (buy some at the craft store or better yet, cut up the magnet ads you receive in the mail) and you’ve got your child excited about heading back to school.
Homemade crafts are a great way to occupy little minds and hands during the March break. Have fun!
