Festive Winter Holiday Recipes
Whether serving a rowdy crowd of preschoolers or simply looking for a few fun treats this holiday season, here are some easy holiday recipes to whip up with your children.
Merry Krispie Squares
Ingredients:
- 35-40 large marshmallows (or 4 cups of mini ones)
- 3 tbs margarine or butter
- Festive cookie cutters (snowman, Christmas trees, dreidels, etc.)
- 6 cups Rice Krispie Cereal
- Food colouring
- Rainbow sprinkles
Prepare Rice Krispie treats according to the package.
As you melt the marshmallows, stir in a few drops of food colouring until the desired colour has been achieved.
Add Rice Krispies as directed, stirring until well mixed.
Press into a greased pan and chill.
Once cooled, use cookie cutters to press out festive cookie shaped bars.
Repeat as necessary to make different colours.
Add rainbow sprinkles to decorate.
Joyfully Minty Chocolate Bark
Ingredients:
- 1 lb white chocolate
- 1 tbs vegetable shortening
- 6 large candy canes (crushed)
Line a rectangular baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Break chocolate into pieces.
Melt chocolate and shortening in a double boiler.
Stir until smooth.
When melted, remove from heat and stir in crushed candy cane pieces.
Pour mixture onto the baking sheet.
Pat mixture so that candies are in an even, single layer.
Place the bark in the fridge to chill and then break into pieces.
Alternatively, you can add 1 cup dried cranberries or try using semi-sweet or dark chocolate as a base.
