Appropriate Tunes to Play around Your Tots

One of the most common complaints that some parents have about those first few years with a new child in their life is how much it changes the sort of culture they are exposed to. No longer can they just put on programs, movies or music intended for adults.

Nevertheless, it is also acceptable to sympathize with the parent who has heard "the wheels on the bus go round and round" one too many times.

When you find the need from time to time to turn off Elmo's Greatest Hits, the following are some considerations you might want to take into account:

What is the tone of the music I am listening to?

Try to take into account the mood that the music is trying to convey. Some heavier music may not be filled with vulgarity but it may have a mood of dread and depression that could disturb your child.

How does the music affect me?

We all listen to music for a variety of reasons. Sometimes to celebrate and put us in a good mood, other times to augment us if we feel depressed or angry. If the music you like to listen to puts you into a mood that is angry or edgy, then perhaps it is best not to listen to it around your child.

Is there any educational value to the music I listen to?

Some studies show that listening to music such as classical at a very young age helps to develop a child's sense of music appreciation and intelligence. This has to do with the complexities of the melodies and movements.
