Splish, Splash: Making Bath Time Fun Time
Bath time no longer needs to be something to dread. Here are a few techniques to help make bath time fun time.
Activities
- Singing is not only a fun way to pass the time; it may help relax children of any bath time anxieties.
- Before the next bath, freeze some small plastic toys in Styrofoam cups filled with water. At bath time, tear away the cups and float the ice cubes in your child's bath letting them melt and revealing the toy inside.
- Try hosting toy races and explorations. Who will win when the little rubber duck races the blue whale across the tub? Just how many items can we pile on the boat before the boat sinks?
- Make a washing chain. Have your child bring a favourite toy or doll into the tub with them. As you wash your child, your child can wash his or her toy.
Toys
- Why not take your child to the store and have them pick out a special bath toy just for them? Using the toy only at bath time will ensure it maintains its appeal.
- Purchase specially designed bath books just for bath time. Many feature well-known TV characters or waterproof versions of classic stories.
- Make bath time craft time. Bath tub crayons and paints help encourage your little artists to get creative in the tub.
- Novelty soaps are also a great trick to try. These soaps have neat little toys or plastic animals embedded in them. The only way to get the toy out is for you child to wash!
Decorating
- If your children are fortunate enough to have their own bathroom, let them decorate it themselves! This little task will help them feel like they have ownership in the room.
