The Adventures of A-star and B-boy

Why wait?

A-star and B-boy have been to the paediatrician a few times. There's the standard check-ups every month that they should go to and a few trips for what have been (knock wood) fairly average problems. Since it was summer during their first 3 months, doctors go on vacation, so we've seen more than just our own doctor. As a result, I think I have a pretty good idea about how paediatricians assess problems in the first 3 months. They have four fairly standard questions:

1) Is your Baby peeing?
2) Is your Baby Pooping?
3) Is your Baby eating?
4) Is your Baby gaining weight?

One night, after a fairly standard feeding, A-star began to cry a lot and it took a lot of effort to calm him down. I was scared; I thought I'd given him a little too much to eat. As the days passed, we noticed that he would arch is back after a feed before he started to cry and make straining noises. Thanks to the power of the internet, we figured he was either colicky or that he had GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) of some sort . We'd already seen the paediatrician and we were aware that if the doctor's office felt the baby was colicky, they'd advise you to wait. Wait 3 months and the Baby's body may develop to the point where the problem goes away. Armed with the foreknowledge that the Doctor may advise us to do nothing, we decided to make an appointment.

Naturally, I got the receptionist first. She asked me what the problem was and I told her. The receptionist then said: "Your baby might be colicky. Is he Peeing?" Yes. "Is he Pooping?" Yes."Is he eating?" Yes. At that point I suddenly realized, is the receptionist pre-screening me? I mean, it makes sense right? The questions are so standard and there are so many first time parents that go see the doctor the moment the feel something is wrong, that maybe the receptionist can provide you with a solution. But what if her solution was to wait 3 months?

At this point, I know the receptionist wouldn't have blocked us from an appointment if I'd wanted one, but back then, I didn't know.

"Is the Baby losing weight?"

"I think he is. Can we come in today?"

As it turned out, A-star had actually gained a pound since his last visit 2 weeks earlier. In the examination room, A-star dutifully spit-up for the Doctor, even though he had eaten a few hours earlier without any pain. The Doctor was convinced enough to prescribe some baby antacids, although she did advise me we didn't have to use any drugs and we could wait 3 months to see what would happen.

Eventually, A-star (and then B-boy) learned to accept the taste of Baby antacids. Sometimes I think he looks forward to it, like an appetizer.

Okay, I need to which one is A-star and which one is B-boy.  They are definately distinct.
