Hi there, being an aboriginal
(who grew up on the rez) I think this shows concept is great.....there is alot of misinterpetation of this, or lack of education on the Native culture, which to this day surprises me (hello, its 2006) the characters at first glance can be kinda scary (I thought so anyway) but when u give it a chance and watch it, you will appreciate all it has to offer. I hadn't watched it before i had son, then my husband found it on tv with son and watched it - he said they dance at the end of the show (grandpa's drum) and I thought that was awesome, since most first nations still keep thier traditional songs/dances alive to this day (i don't mean PowWows either) but all of the animal characters mean (stand for) something in our culture. I think there is a website for this show somewhere. The comment I read about the characters being rude - I can understand how they may come off as that, but we are a very laid back culture and we use alot of slang, and you can hear the accents - but its the gruffness (for lack of a better word) you hear, natives do not (and probably never will) speak proper english. (let alone, manners....that comes later on life usually haha) Thats just the way we are....english "should" not be our first language. If you can access APTN network, they actually have the Cree version of this show, which is interesting, (if u can speak Cree I guess
