Won't Drink Milk, child who does not like milk

Hi my daughter is 2 and does not like milk (white or chocolate)
We have tried yogurt shakes and she turns her nose up at those too!

She does eat cheese, broccoli and loves oj (with calcium) but is this enough.

The doctor said not to give her anything to drink until she was so thirsty she would drink the milk but I couldn't do that as i feel it is too mean.

    Any suggestions

Is there vitamins she could take? Thabks

Hi! My daughter has been the same way her whole life. The one thing that is in milk that is very important to them is calcium. It can be found in other foods though. My health nurse told me it is nothing to worry about as long as they are getting calcium from other sources. You could talk to a nutritionalist and ask for a list of foods that have high levels of calcium. My daughter is 2 1/2 and still won't take anythingthat is made from milk, not yogurt or ice cream or anything. Just make sure that she is getting plenty of calcium and don't push the milk on her. She probably just doesn'tlike it.

I feel the milk pain...................my daughter has never really been a big milk fan tho im not either and thats probly my fault for teaching her that.! she wil however eat ice cream and sometimes yogart(not for me tho) she will sometimes eat it and drink for other people when shes in a group or daycare, but her eating/drinking habbits are REALLY hit or miss on things that she'll take. shes the pickest little person...............which again is probly my fault i hate eating always have so.......boo on me but i do try and have meals ect with her is exstreamly hard to get "milk" into her but if she actually asks for it ill for sure give it to her

I am also a member of the "hating milk" club. I wouldn't drink milk as a child and I hated when others tried to force it on me. I starting to drink chocolate milk when I became pregnant, I would get cravings for it.... obviously it was the baby because I didn't touch the stuff before then. I will now drink chocolate milk and I do have milk in my tea but I just try to drink the O.J. with calcium, eat cheese and yogurt and I love frozen yogurt shakes with fruit.

P.S. I was against most dairy as a child because I thought it was gross it came from a cow, try and find out why she doesn't like it and maybe try to sneak in some dairy without her knowing like those frozen yogurt shakes or in soups that you can use milk (tomato).

Your child might not be able to disgest milk. I didn't want to drink milk either as a kid, and now I know I don't tolerate milk protein, so that's the reason.
Have you considered soy'milk'? there are so many great soy'milk' products and they are fortified to resemble cow's milk in nutrient contents.
Other than that - calcium fortifed OJ and cereal is a good option and so is broccoli and other dark green vegs. If you can make your child eat canned sardines and salmon with the bones that's a really good source too.

    Good luck

hi there! my son has his moment when he won't finish all his milk but he will drink it. a friend of mine, her daughter has problems with milk too. makes her feel sick & bungs her up inside too. she has tried goat's milk, soy milk, rice milk, almond milk & any other type of milk that would still have the calcium in it.
but, if you lil one is getting the calciium from somewhere else then you should be ok. treedaisy sounded like they had some good advice too!! hope some of this helps!

There is nothing wrong with not drinking milk- lots of cultures don't have cow milk. As long as she is getting other sources of calcium, she is fine.

My daughter only drinks water, and my doctor thinks it is great.

My daughter has a dairy allergy and own't drink milk of any kind. She used to drink goats milk, which is actually closer to human milk than cows milk, but stopped that a few months ago.
There are so many other source of calcium that are probably healthier. Brocolli and spinach are excellent. Sesame seeds are an excellent source of calcium. I sprinkle them on everything and they don't have much of a taste so they are undetectable. You could even let your little one sprinkle them on and she might be more inclined to eat them.
I would say that chocolate milk as the primary source of calcium is probably not a good idea because the sugar content is so high, but as a treat once in a while might make you feel better.
I am usually wary of what the medical community has to say about dairy. I was told that my daughter "HAS" to drink milk. She really doesn't, but people are more likely to take the easy road than to research other sources of important nutrients.

I don't know if you breastfed, but both my kids were and they would not drink milk until they got around 3, and then it had to be 1%. I used to buy the orange juice that had extra calcium. Now, my daughter drinks A LOT of milk And she prefers white to chocolate. Weird, huh?

If she eats broccoli and juice with calcium, thats fine and probably healthier because there is less fat :)
It stinks! It stinks! It stinks!

i don't like cow's milk either. so i would suggest hemp milk. it's really yummy and has gla's in it which is a rare nutrient to boost the immune system. the only other place to find it is in momma's milk.

hard day, soft diapee, huggies.... be happy! :)
