    Re: New Shows

It seems we the adults are the ones with the problem adapting to the new shows, not the kids.  My 22 month old son loves "In The Night Garden" while I am constantly scratching my head wondering why farting noises are coming out of the "plinky-plonky" or whatever it's called.  C'est la vie.  I don't like a lot of the new shows either, but the real problem is the schedule times.   Diego is on at a particularly bad time (5 pm EST) just as he gets home from daycare and wants to play outside.  Maybe the new content should have been slotted in around some of the stalwarts like Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, etc.

Looks like we just have to deal with it.  :(

Sorry but I don't believe it is the parents who have the problem with the new schedule.  I think most/all of us are here to voice our children's disappointment with the programming.  My son is bitterly disappointed with most of the new programming.  He likes the Wiggles (which is not a new show) and he likes the Koala Brothers but he waits by the tv for Max and Ruby each and every week night.  I know people say they thought Max and Ruby was on too much before - well that just makes it harder when they take it off completely in the afternoon/evenings.  Its on at 8AM now while my son is going to daycare.  Also so many children love Dora - I don't understand why they took it off the weekday schedule!!  Nothing wrong with change when its done in a tolerable dose!!  And I sincerely hope Treehouse will make some changes soon!

I agree with you that Treehose tv is not here to educate our children however, our children that watch these shows are extremely impressionable at this age ,they pick up so much from watching other people or things even from tv.I dont want my child acting and role modelling what I saw from some of the shows.I also agree that not all of them were awful(FIFI and the Flower Tots) are an exception for us,change can be good but my daughter will not be imitating this change thanks to the new programming.

    Re: New Shows

So happy to see some voices of reason on here!!!  I was really getting worried that some of the new shows that my girls like would be taken off before they had a chance to get some decent exposure and build a fan base.

It seemed like a lot of parents were/are going by knee-jerk reactions to only seeing bits of a show.  Yes it's unfortunate how they moved some of the most popular shows to such different time slots (still surprised to learn that Treehouse doesn't time shift for East and West coast - didn't realize until I visited my parents when they moved to BC- CRAZY!!). However, even though there was some confusion and a few tears with my near three year old at the start, she has adjusted just fine. Using the PVR a little more so that if she needs a Dora or Diego fix it's there when we need it.

Overall, I'm happy with the new shows - never cared for Boblins or Roly Polie Olie, but again, the programming isn't for me.

I think a bigger issue that could have helped a lot of viewers would have been if they had been prepared with the transitions for the new shows and possibly promoted where shows were moved to (i.e.: "Catch 'Dora' at her new time of ____ p.m. EST/____ p.m. PST on Sundays").  That caused the most frustration for my daughter - when they promoted one program to be on next and then the new show was in its place at the very start and she wasn't familiar with the new programs yet.

To TPTB, timing is still not quite right on the digital guides to tape with a PVR!!  Either a few minutes at the beginning is missing or a few minutes at the end.

    Re: New Shows

I agree to some degree with some of the new shows, such as "grabba...", but I do not agree with comments about the show In The Night Garden.  I think this is a great show airing at the perfect time...bedtime!  Thank you Treehouse for adding a show that is not all about the toy company marketing machine.  I recently purchased a DVD of this show from the UK (for Saturdays when it doesn't air) and if you listen to the commentary from the creators you realize that a lot of thought went into the simple, creative and soothing concepts associated with this show.

I have been waiting for this show to come to Treehouse as it has been become a phenomenon accross the pond in England.  My daughter was given some ITNG books at Christmas and immediately feel in love with characters.  The show is specifiaclly designed for children ages 1 to 3 in order to wind them down for bed.  Its meant to stimulate their little minds with creative, calming thoughts and make for pleasant sleeps.

I love it, but what's more...my daughter loves it!

All I can say is that the moment this show started my 21 month old daughter has fallen in love with it and all of the characters.  It has become an integral part of her bedtime routine.  She knows that it comes on at 730 and that means that bedtime is next.  It not only allows her to wind down and mentally get ready for bed but will also help her to start to understand the concept of time as she now says "Upsy Daisy, Iggle Piggle 730" when the time starts to appraoch.

My daughter does not watch excessive amounts of TV but the first time she saw ITNG she cried when it was ending.  She has never reacted to any show like this, and the joy on her face when it is on lets me know that it is stimulating her imagination, with its bright colours, creative scenes and characters, and simple stories.

I don't think that children should be getting their education from TV, that's what books, Parents and teachers are for.  Not every show needs to be educational and it is nice to just have a show that is geared to stimulate a childs imagination as they wind down for bed...hopefully it will make for pleasant dreams.

To those parents that say they don't like it...it's not for you anyway, its for your child.  I think if you give it a chance then your child, if at the right age, will love it.  And by the way it should be that your childern are watching the TV...not the TV watching your children...

Its nice to get away from all the toy company, marketing driven shows that bombard our children even if it is for only 30 mins!

    Re: New Shows

I've just come to notice that my original post has been edited by tree house and doesn't include the title of the show I was originally talking about. That's rude. Anyway, I still am upset with in the night garden and fine there are some kids out there that it is entertaining to, but for educational value, there is none. And I agree that yo gabba gabba is really silly too. It would be nice if some of the previous shows were aired again more often and to that note, I would like to see barney  a little more too!! As annoying as he is to parents, he is very educational. Hopefully, something can change.

You and your husband are the ones bringing up your children and you have the right to stop them watching programmes you don't want them to see. However you don't have to right to limit what my children are allowed to watch.

I dislike the parents who say that any programme they don't want thier children to watch should be banned. And if there is no educational value, there was never any in most of the shows I watched as a child!

For me. I dislike Barney intensely. But DS sort of likes the show, especially the "I Love You"  song which we share. But I would never demand that it should be removed because I don't want to watch it!
I used to be such a sweet sweet thing
Till they gotta hold of me.
