Re: Get Rid of In the Night Garden

My son also LOVES chocolate before dinner and often wants ice cream for breakfast, but just because he likes it doesn't mean it is doing him any good! There is absolutely no educational value, language development, or moral lessons learned in this ridiculous, mindless show. I would think that this is a highly important time slot for Treehouse and they have a responsibility to offer children fun but relaxing shows to settle down with... not this frightening fluff! In response to those who don't need education to let their kids watch TV... I agree not everything needs to be a lesson, but it certainly SHOULD be something sane.

I DO NOT AGREE WHAT SO EVER.  My Daughter is 2 yrs old and ABSOLUTLEY loves it.  Every day she asks for it.  She dances and sings to it.

We both watch it together and it relaxes her before bed time.  I really like the show.

Re: Get Rid of In the Night Garden - DON'T!!!

dear parents.there are some good points in this discussion. however i don't see why the night garden is so wrong. i think it plays with imganinations a lot more than most of the regular programing. times are changing there are new generations coming in we should stop trying to censor what we don't understand and learn more about it. i think shows like the night garden and yo gabba gabba can teach the retentive people something as well as their children.

My two year old actually loves In The Night Garden.  I don't think it will appeal to children much older than 2, but he loves going to bed, having a snuggle with us and watching the show.  He is quite relaxed and ready for sleep by the time it is over.

The characters are strange, but for a two year old, the funny words and kooky characters are appealing.

Thank you for writing this!!!!!'I totally agree.  This is a completely ridiculous program for a kid of any age to watch.  It encourages grunting and makes no sense.  I would love to see something a little more educational or even just plain old fun back in this time slot.  I can't believe this station would take off shows like Dora the Explorer, Blues Clues and Max and Ruby and replace them with shows like this.  Not impressed and neither is my little guy!

Its a TV show...if your kids like it great and if not find something better to do with the time. read them a story, play a game, talk or find something else on.

I completely agree with "notehead"; my wife, son and I really enjoy this show.  We were just talking about how there isn't any lessons to be learned and how wonderful it is.  I do watch some educational films/tv on occasion but usually I watch films/tv for entertainment which is exactly what this show provides.  My wife and I much prefer to be the ones educating our son until he attends school.

ITNG isn't afraid to use non-traditional characters, sounds, plots and images and that is very important to me.

Thank you Treehouse, keep it coming!

KEEP IT ON. Teletubbies was retarded, but this one has colours and sounds that a specific for very little ones.  My son loves it and it calms him down for bedtime. He races to the TV to see it. He could care less about any other program on tree house except the wiggles. Little bear is crap and franklin is boring.

To anyone opposing to this show: Anyone who has a British or celtic background can tell you that we grew up on this type of thing. Our grandparents made up funny names for us and objects etc..and they made their own stories.  I had a weird name given to me. The narrator speaks the whole time in plain english. It it for children 3 and under. None of you ever watch the baby Einstein video's?
If you think this is crap then I suppose all Dr. Seuss books should be banned as well.

Some of us are inflicting this on our children, even now. All 3 of mine have various nick-names depending on what we are doing. As for telling silly stories........

Agreed . Personally I don't like the BE DVD's. We got one for DS and he wasn't impressed at all.

We even had a theme song for our nick names much like the iggle piggle song. This show  just brings back warm, loving childhood memories for me.
I have names for my kids too.
I had an Irish/Scottish grandmother who told the stories and sang in the manner I was speaking of above, she passed it to my dad and so on.

    Absolutely disagree.

This is a magical and engaging program that my 3 & 5 year old boys love. Through it they learn gentleness and the possibility of small actions.

Compare this (as others on this thread have) to Dora the Explorer: a show with a pumping, 3-second attention span, flashing, video game mentality. "Quick quick, who can guess how we can cross the river? Quick quick. Yes that's right, jump on the turtles' backs"  "Oh no, Boots is coming to steal our stuff." Tell me again that this drivel is a positive educational experience. We learn that bad people are just bad and can't be trusted. We learn that there is a glib answer to every challenge; one that takes us suddenly forward to our destination.  I guess no-one has said that the education being offered is positive that was just my assumption. There is some Spanish I guess.

[For the opposite of the Dora 'Boots' learning moment see the classic Blue's Clues Hippo on the Hill.]

So my kids love ITNG, they push tricycles, wash things with sponges and count to 10 with the Pontipines and Wottingers (whose mother comes on the adventures unlike, say, the great Little Bear). They learn that there is more to life and experience than narrative and glib moralising.

    It's magic.

I don't understand the show but my daughter seems to love it. Unsure why? She is 1 years old and gets very excited when the shows comes on. It reminds me of the telatubbies but this show they talk.
