I have to disagree with everyone who says this show is not educational. If you look at the target audience, it aims at 6 months and up. All the weird names may be gibberish to us, but it teaches all sorts of new sounds and repeats them over and over for them. Makka Pakka.. most babies start with the easy consonants ma-ma, da-da, ba-ba.. even in just saying the name they are practicing P and K.. again with Iggle Piggle, G and P again. Everything is done in repetition and rhyme during each and every episode and although it may not be very entertaining to us, it really does help our little ones develop and learn speech patterns. They also learn up, down, behind, in, out.. etc. Counting from 1-10. It has bright colours and high contrast and all sorts of funny noises to draw/keep their attention. If our kids are at the walking, jumping about stage, they can follow along with each characters' dance, getting them to move about and gain balance and mobility. The songs, rhymes and stories are all short, which is where our children's attention spans are at. It may not seem educational at first glance, but remember, our children come into this world knowing absolutely nothing and In The Night Garden helps to teach the very basic foundations.
