    Headaches in Children

My almost 3 year old has been complaining of headaches quite a bit lately.  I thought it might have been because she had a bit of a cold, but the cold seems to have passed and she still says her headaches.  To me, it seems unusual that a child so young could already be getting headaches.  Has anyone else's child had problems with headaches?

I found with our daughter that almost all of her headaches are caused by either dehydration or being hungry (low blood sugar).

With the summer now hear, kids generally don't want to come inside and will play longer and harder making them dehydrate. Forcing your kids to take drink breaks will help.

As for your daughter, try making sure she is hydrated and sleeping enough hours. My daughter argues about going to bed if its "still light out".

I've found ice-lollies to be a blessing in the summer. I've made my own using fruit juice  in a mould.

I've get head-aches due to sinus inflammation  releated to pollen allergies.

If the headaches are caused by the heat, then something cold is what is needed, like some icecream, or a couple of cold fruit juice drinks. Other wise like the others have suggested, keeping the children hydrated with lots of drink breaks.

If its allergies that are causing it, as with DH, keep the windows closed esp in the early mornings, and perhaps use a fan if its hot. We find its usually worse early morning...

    Hope it helps.. Sta

    Hi Bridash,

If the headaches are still there...I would suggest to go see a doctor.
My hubby had that problem as a kid himself, and it ended up that he had liquid in his brain which made pressure...which caused alot of headaches.
I'm not telling you this to scare you...but I just would mess with this stuff myself. If it's constent...get it checked.

    Hope this helps

Generally those types of headaches are caused by eye strain or bad posture causing back and neck muscles to spasm.

I have been keeping an eye on her headaches lately.  Some are when she is dehydrated, others seem to be an allergy/weather related, and some I just don't know.  So we're off for a check up next week.

My dd wears glasses.  Could this be a problem with her eyes.  She also has been diagnosed with migraines.  She gets cluster aches in the back of the eyes which really never develop into a full blown headaches at times.
    Have a great day!!!

I got her hair cut quite short and for now her headaches seem to have stopped for a bit.  Her hair is so fine I never would have thought that it would cause headaches.  But after talking to a few people, they have told me that their hair caused headaches.  I'm still going to get her eyes checked later in the fall as well.

Its possible, perhaps her prescription has changed, and she needs a new set of glasses. Or it could also be that the glasses dont sit correctly on her face, and need some adjustment.

Also sometimes headaches can be caused by certain foods, esp in those who also suffer from migranes. Among other foods specific to the individual, cheese and chocolate can also be the culprits.
