What Are Grade 1's Watching?, suitable programs for 5 1/2 year old

Can anyone tell me what are the "in" shows for boys at the grade 1 level? My son is 5 1/2, starting grade 1 this fall, and still LOVES the Treehouse lineup. But what shows can I introduce him to that might be more age-appropriate yet not violent??

you know, it seems like by that age they're all more interested in shows like spiderman, spongebob, transformers, etc.. Im seeing a pattern develop with my son where he won't watch tv all day everyday, but he knows at 4:00 on certain days transformers arem and again at 5;30 spongebob is on, now... spongebob is a... special show... before I had my son I hated spongebob, but... after watching it a few time sI know now why kids and some adults like it.. its quirky, funny, and silly. there isn't very much violence persey, and of what there is its not beyond killing or slaughtering.. but its a show some kids will enjoy. Its definately not suitable for treehouse thats for sure !! I enjoy treehouse programming b/c of its innocence. its better for our kids.

Don't worry, there's lots of great shows for boys in fisrt grade:

Pokemon, Digimon, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo, Looney Toons, Yogi Bear, Spongebob, He-Man, Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, AAAAAHHHH Real Monsters, Doug, Wild Thornberries, The Simpsons, The Critic, King of the Hill, Futurama, Ruby Gloom, Lloyd in Space, Arthur, The Smurfs, The Mario cartoons, The Legend of Zelda series, Earthworm Jim, Animaniacs, Invader Zim, Pinky and the Brain, Ren and Stimpy, Reeboot, Fraggle Rock.

I would have suggested Murder, She Wrote, as my son liked it at that age, but chances are 99.9% your son wouldn't like it. (Mine was just weird about that, lol).

The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers, All Grown Up, Will and Do It, and being Ian would all be great, too.

There are some shows that I  find are not appropriate for a child that age to be watching.

    Bolding mine....

Those shows I would not let my 7 yo waych...never mind my 5 yo!

Personally, I don't have a problem with any of these shows for first graders (My 2 watched a great deal of these at that age)... But every parent is different, and I respect that.

Things my now 5yo DS is watching

Johnny Test--- not too bad, though I object to the intelligent, scientific sisters being boy-mad to te extent of cloning thier crush.

Chaotic/ Bakugan/ Pokemon---very similar premises, lots of cartoon violence.

World of Quest --- hero and side-kicks need to find swords and rescue the king and queen.

Fairly Odd Parents --- Fairy god-parents grant wishes to a 10 yo boy.

Spongebob Squarepants and Fairly Odd Parents are 2 great shows for all ages and especially elementary students. There basically isn't any violence and it's appropriate comedy for young kids.
