4 Square, what is with there clothing?

4 square is a good thing for kids with teaching them movment and sounds, etc. but what is with the blue outfits? Do they not wear anything under them? The people who thought of the outfits should relize that is not what parents want to see on a child show. You can pretty much see everything. I agree with the teaching example but i really disagree with the outfits. I think im not the only parent who will agree to this. Thank you for listening.

I can not and do not see anything other than male or female bodies.

I can see nothing I would not see at a ballet or dance recital, at the beach at a gym or on a sports field.

What ids it that you see that (general) you find objectionable??

For real now... why do the men for this particular team need to dress in such tight clothes and have things bulging out?? Yes.... I am a parent and find this totally disgusting. If the girls can wear mini skirts, why can't the guys where shorts?? The rest of the teams on 4 square are ok (except for the little cross eyed doo wah or whatever they're called). But back to the topic at hand.... these guys are totally disgusting and shouldn't be on t.v. like that. My grandmother has told me that he gets up and walks away from the t.v. when they're on. He's only 2

I agree with the clothing, it is god aweful. What were they thinking by spraying on clothes with no underwear so the kids can view all the goodies? Weird.  I think the show is alittle too weird.

    Exactly.
They're going to start asking questions about their body/other's bodies eventually...why 'shelter' a child? I don't know. I'm a firm believer that being secretive about things like that is a great way to teach your child how to be ashamed of their body. If they see the parents shy away and not reply, the child is going to start to think, "SO should I be ashamed of what I have?"... Truth is always the best option.
Personally, I just can't stand any of the people on the show. I have no problems with the noises, or the dances, or the outfits. Most of the voices just irritate me. Fortunately, my kids aren't fond of the show either.

Re: 4 Square, what is with THEIR clothing?

Here is the thing.  The Move-It Team are a troup of dancers called Corpus.  Feel free to look them up.  Captain Hup (David Danzon) and Bianca (Sylvie Bouchard) are its directors.  They're wearing appropriate DANCE wear.

Also, for those who think you can see everything... Does your husband have a Ken-Doll appearance to his region?  Because these men do... and it's because they've got formed inserts in their body suits so that the children see nothing more than an ambiguous bulge like a Ken-Doll.  If you're so concerned about it being inappropriate, then don't let your children watch.  If you think you're looking at the "goodies" of these men, you should do a google image search on male ballet dancers.  I think you're in for one heck of a shock.

Wow - for the people who are offended by dancers wearing body suits, you really need to get out more.  The human body is nothing to be ashamed of or embarassed by.

I agree100% eduction is one thing but at the expense of those costumes? I would rather leave it than take it. Its hard to explain my 4 yr old asks what they are wearing or what are they pretending to be and I cant explain it.

I am in fully agreement with what is being said.  Children may ask questions but what is wrong with telling them the truth about bodies??
My daugher absolutly loved this show, I am a ECE teacher myself and I agree with what they are teaching children, different movements, poems and concepts.  View beyond the clothing and look at what the children are learning!

I used to think the show was bad and weird but I gave it a shot and my 19 mos old loves it and dances and claps and its great to see him interacting.

Kids shows can be very weird and sometimes questionable. For instance, the new show yo-gabba-gabba....I am not sure how I feel about it yet....its great to see the kids dancing and interacting but the host weirds me out....

Re: 4 Square, what is with THEIR clothing?

Its a fantastic show, and DD adores it, and always asks me to check the timings, so that she wont miss it :)  I like everything about it, except the costumes. I understand that its perfectly normal dance attire, but do the team really need to wear such tight clothing? Wouldnt a simple jeans and T-shirt combo be just as good?

Its not about being ashamed of your body or embarrassed by it, I just think that theres no need to make the differences between male and female bodies blatently obvious and in childrens faces like so. The clothing is inappropriate purely because too much is visible. I am not ashamed of my body, but I do not walk around semi-naked with all on view. if you want to inculcate moral values in your children you have to take the relvent precautions. It is views such as 'nothing to be ashamed of' which cause society to become liberal and accept this as appropriate. I personally do not think it is appropriate clothing for a childrens programme, dance attire or not... Children are learning all the time, and viewing this particular program will 'teach' them that it is ok to wear items of clothing which are revealing.

Children are innocent and thats one of their assets, and they should retain that as much as possble. Granted that children already know that differences exist between men and women, and that these include physical ones too. They have questions as soon as they have the awareness, esp if they have siblings of a different gender in the house. It is important to address these questions truthfully and without being prudish about things, but equally important to teach them to respect themselves and their bodies.
