    Pets!,

What kinds of pets do you have in your household?
Do your kids help to take care of them?

My husband and I have had a dog since before we had children, so she has always been apart of our family. Our two year old enjoys "helping" carry out her food dish. We also have a fish tank. He is always asking to feed the fishes... I let him help were ever he wants to, so that maybe as he gets olderit will be apart of just what he does. And wont be such a chore!

In our house we have quite a few pets...lol
We have a rabbit..it is our daughters she got it for her first Easter , she helps feed it and give it water, i fill the water bottle and she will cartry it over to the cage, and she deekd the rabbit snacks...some im not sure it should even have..but it eats everything she gives it.I feed it the proper food myself. We also have a cat and puppy which I feed..she just plays with them, and some fish that I feed also, she watches them eat, so when she is older im sure she will enjoy feeding them

Two dogs, Boarder collies (maggie and muffin)
Two Ponies ( Starlight and Zeke - already named when we got them)
Three bunnies ( Max, Ruby, and Gracie)

A barn full of cows (13) -- not really pets, but still need caring for.

The kids help with the smaller pets. dd#1 feeds the ponies and ds helps dh in the barn with the cows.

I have seen a cat hanging around the barn also... not sure if it has moved in or not.

I get so sad on this topic. My daughter and I really would love a pet, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen, because my husband has a lot of allergies. They only thing we could have is a reptile (which scare me to death), or fish, but we really want a puppy, especially a border collie. We can't have one though, so I think we are going to get an aquarium in the near future.

I have one cat, and my 2 1/2 year old son helps feed it sometimes buy putting food in the cat's bowl and putting the bowl on the floor. He likes to help out.

We have a dog a cat and two fish tanks. My son 2 years old helps to feed them all. It's his job to feed the dog, he's very good at it. And he helps daddy feed the fish at night

We don't have any pets and don't really want any because my husband and I don't agree on the pets. I want a cat and he would rather a dog. We've had several fish and a hamster but my daughter was too little and would just put her fingers in the cage, so we got ride of it. But we don't mind not having any pets.

We had the dog, a Schnoodle, before my son was born and it looks like it helps me with my son, not the other way around. He finds my son in the backyard when he's hiding from me, or when my son cries he is there in an instant to see if he can help. I trained him and I got it used while I was pregnant to rough playing, like ear pulling, pushing, anything that I thought that a baby or toddler would do, it paid off. But I always watch them, just in case my son gets too rough, he is getting better though. He likes to give the dog treats and help with the brushing. I think we are lucky in a way, because the dog has a very good temperament, it is true what they say that if you let the dog choose you, then you will have liitle problems.

We have a Bostion Terrier named Jak Jak. We weren't too sure how he would react when we had our daughter because we rescued him from an abusive situation when he was 5 yrs old. But I can happily say he loves her to death, and when we go for our nightly walk my 14 mnth old throws a temper tantrum if she is not allowed to have the leash and walk him around the block!

My son wants a dog so badly, but he has allergies to dogs. We already tried getting him a fish, but he died in a week. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Have you considered a Maltese or Bichon Frise? They are great dogs for people who have allergies.
