Books, What are the books you would recommend?

    Hey all,

We are big time readers in our family. We are always looking for new and exciting books to try out.

So, here is my question. What books would you recommend? What are your children's favorite books? Favorite character? Favorite author?

We also like books by Pheobe Gillman like Jillian Jiggs the have great pictures. There are just to many to pick from, my suggestion is to go to the library.

We hit the library a lot but I find the best recommendations for kids books comes from kids and their parents.

I love hearing about which books other children enjoyed and authors to look for!

    What age are your kids?

For the younger ones, I would go for Baby Einstein books.

For the older ones, I agree with Robert Munsch. I grew up on his books.

    1. Over in the Meadow
    2. Moo, Baa, La La La
    3. Peek a Little Boo

Over in the meadow is one of the first books we read and it is still the first one she picks up. Moo is a very close second favorite and Keely reads along with me when I read it to her. Peek a little boo reads through the alphabet and will be on the shelf for a long time, not to be outgrown.

    Happy Reading

For kids approx aged 3 - 8 I would recommend Mercer Mayer's 'Little Critter'
I take the cue from my son - he loves them!

They deal with all sorts of different issues a kid will face growing up like, new little sister/brother, having a friend over, spending time with granma/granpa, not being invited to the 'cool party', good manners and lots of others

We looove Richard Scarry books around here. In particular, Cars, Trucks and Things that Go and Busy, Busy Town. There's so much going on in those books and they're really well drawn and written. I also love pretty much all of the Dr. Seuss books. Of course there's also Franklin and Little Critter in the mix.

Older kids' books that I love but have to wait to break out are the Mary Poppins books (so much better than the movie!), Shel Silverstein (The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends in particular), and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Don't wait to break out the Shel! I was reading "A Light in the Attic" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends" to Maggie as soon as she was born, and she loves the rhymes!

My girls really enjoy the Baby Einstein books, any kind of lift the flap book, as well as "No Elephants", "Jamberry", "I love you through and through". Dr. Seuss books of course! We haven't had any Robert Munsch yet, but I think I will get them one for Easter.
