Adventures In Potty Training, Or How often will I be cleaning my floor

After this summers futile attempt to PT DS(3 In Jan) by letting him run around outside in vest and underpants I am starting again.

The summer event lead to DS running into the house to put on his trainig pants over his undies to go pee.

So I've started again. Last week. It was going to be the week before but I managed to get a tummy bug that I passed to DD1 and DS. DD2 was miffed as she didn't get it and had to go to school.

So I removed his cloths and put him on the potty. Nothing. Tried again at regular intervals . Again nothing. Explain how he needs to tell me when he has to go. Nothing.

Sunday he sat on the potty by himself, fully clothed. Then he made"pssss, psss"-ing sounds before leaping up and shouting" Look Mummy, pee-pee".
I guess I still have some-way to go.

I used to be such a sweet sweet thing
Till they gotta hold of me.

I agree with canadianmom, dd1 was potty trained 1 week before she started kindergarden. Dd2 is 3yrs old, uses the potty during the day pullups at night.

Oh I'm not too worried about it , Yet .

I remember it took some-time for both girls though they were spurred by the fact we had a baby in the house and only babies wear diapers.

So far week 2 nothing in the potty either for me or his day-care. He will remove his pants and sit on the potty but nothing.

However I have not had to wash the floor due to him .....

Week 3 was another non-event on the potty front.

However DS is asking at day-care to use the potty. Note must learn French for this.

So far this week a slight case of diarrhea has made PT a bit of a no-starter. Still nil desporandum .

Still nothing on the home front. Although he does ask to use the potty but nothing ever happens.

But he is using the toilet now at garderie all the time.

I've moved the potty into the bathroom and hoping this will spur him into using it.

Still nothing at home. I'm going to try the underpants with pull-up technique.

At garderie , he is still using the toilet and now asking when he needs to go.

    Learn French ......

he's definitely not ready, since he doesn't tell you he has to go... prolly training pants is alright by themselves. having him go in his clothes is not nice, and if you rush him he will only crave being in diapees more.
hard day, soft diapee, huggies.... be happy! :)

Oh, I'm certainly not going to rush him.

It's just he uses the toilet( a child size model) at daycare and asks to go if he needs to. It's just at home he doesn't.

hmm, well if it's just at daycare, it's likely cuz of him seeing the other kids using the potty too. so it's just a matter of seeing and doing. that's how i learn best too. so just give it time...

Well, how I trained Ariel was...

If she peed, I would leave her there.
Seems heartless, I know, but it works.

Sooner or later, your child will hate it.
Trying to avoid the wetness under there.
    Then you can instruct them.

Or take them to the bathroom with you,
if you have a girl, mom it's your duty.
    Boy? Dad's duty.

DD2 is being introduced to potty training. She'll sit for a few seconds and then says "not working, no pees".

Hi, I'm new to this board. DD turned 3 in Jan.
I can so totally relate to potty-learning adventures. We have been working on it (casually) for over a year, now. Other moms, at work, or play group are always bragging about having their kids "trained"- at 2, etc. Competitive spirit kicks in, I torment my kid for a while, and so-on.
She is now staying dry for extended periods of time, in her diapers, and announcing (sometimes) that she feels the need to pee, so I think she could actually be ready to start in earnest. She has always been quite fastidious about poo, and usually gets to the bathroom in time. We use a little seat on the toilet, and a stepping stool.
All I can say is be patient. (do as I say, not as I do- OK?)
