Certainly I have nothing against this show. We rarely watch it however as it is shown after I change channels to more adult programming.

Also I do not sign e-petitions.

Although I am disappointed with some of the changes I am thrilled that Treehouse has put In the Night Garden on.

This show is getting a bad rap because I don't think it's being promoted properly and is therefore misunderstood.  This show was created for the sole purpose of winding children down for bedtime and to give parents an additional tool for their bedtime routines. The creators have openly stated that this show was not made to be educational.

This show is incredibly popular in the UK, and when the first season came to an end, the BBC was overwhelmed with requests to put it back on the air because it had become an integral part of their bedtime routine.  That's why this show is on six nights a week at the exact same time.

Slight nitpick here, ITNG is shown on CBeebies which is a childrens channel run by the BBC (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBeebies)

I am really not a fan of the show and I am not sure that the show itself would be good for winding children down for bed; however, the introductory song has been great. The show starts with the child in the crib and my two year old comes and grabs my hand. She watches until the stars turn into flowers then wants it turned off, says "bedtime" and I take her to bed!

We like this show also.  On nights when we watch some TV, X and E sit on either side of me, and we watch the little boat sail in, the adventures of the characters, and everybody going to sleep, the little boat sailing away again with Iggle Piggle asleep under his red blanket. They know then that it's time to brush, change, and go to sleep, and do so without protest.

Bedtime can be the most difficult time for a child.  It's dark.  They can be alone if they have their own room.  They are sometimes aware that you are still up, and don't want to miss anything.  They have nightmares, or night terrors.  They wet the bed and are ashamed.  Name it, and it's possible.  Anything that can soothe them and prepare them for bed is beneficial.

All we are saying, is give it a chance.  It has a stated purpose, it fulfills that purpose, and is a charming little show to boot!  It also would be highly inappropriate at say 0900h when the day is really just starting right across the country.

Changing gears while thinking night time routine, I have a wonderful lullaby CD which each of my kids have, and they play in their rooms on repeat...they like the soothing music, and it is familiar to them if they wake up through the night.  They usually just roll over and go back to sleep. I have also read from or played a purpose-made book/CD for bed storytime, because that is exactly what it was created for.  Anybody interested only need ask and I will name names :)

LOL... the first time I saw The Night Garden. I thought it was made for exactly what you said, putting your kids to sleep.
I am thinking back about my 2 1/2 boy, deeply watching that show. After watching the show he always want to sleep.
We as parents are so worried about education. As soon as you hear or see something that does not mention education, we want to discarded it.

I love it, but what's more...my daughter loves it!

All I can say is that the moment this show started my 21 month old daughter has fallen in love with it and all of the characters.  It has become an integral part of her bedtime routine.  She knows that it comes on at 730 and that means that bedtime is next.  It not only allows her to wind down and mentally get ready for bed but will also help her to start to understand the concept of time as she now says "Upsy Daisy, Iggle Piggle 730" when the time starts to appraoch.

My daughter does not watch excessive amounts of TV but the first time she saw ITNG she cried when it was ending.  She has never reacted to any show like this, and the joy on her face when it is on lets me know that it is stimulating her imagination, with its bright colours, creative scenes and characters, and simple stories.

I don't think that children should be getting their education from TV, that's what books, Parents and teachers are for.  Not every show needs to be educational and it is nice to just have a show that is geared to stimulate a childs imagination as they wind down for bed...hopefully it will make for pleasant dreams.

To those parents that say they don't like it...it's not for you anyway, its for your child.  I think if you give it a chance then your child, if at the right age, will love it.

Its nice to get away from all the toy company, marketing driven shows that bombard our children!

a friend of mine gave me some good advice. if you like In the night garden we should start tapeing them. because of how much conflict is happening there is a good chance that it will be removed.

IF, and I really mean capital bold underline IF, this is a possibility, then it is beyond a shame.

I would love to hear more about where this intimation came from, because if it is human nature rumour mill, then it is bad form.  If it is from a reliable source in programming at TH, then let's get it confirmed so people have the ability to do just that.

And for all those, of course, who have just come on here and posted your hearts out saying "it's trash, it's trash, it doesn't belong on our TV sets", then I want to buy you a very large extra string coffee, wind up the key in your back and point you towards the networks who program reality TV as viable entertainment.....let's rid the networks of the REAL "trash"

I'm sorry  that it came across as if this info came from a reliable sorce. not at all. However, in my experiance when parents stand together to ban something with petitions and loud arguments they tend to win. it is my prediction that Tree House will change its programming including this show. I just wanted to give the idea of tapeing this show to other parents.

Yes I do agree with you, we should give The Night Garden a Chance.

"I'm sorry  that it came across as if this info came from a reliable sorce. not at all."

S'ok.....I'm just fearful that just by seeing it on the message board, unless verified, it will start this whole thing about it actually being removed, and chaos theory prevails.

A great little parallel from a show I like to watch involved a character taking down the Prime Minister of Great Britain with "just six words".  The PM didn't believe it was possible, so the character  went ahead and said those six words to an aide, which toppled the government.  Those six words?  "don't you think she looks tired?"....which led to questions of her competence, and her ability to govern, leading to its obvious conclusion.  It's funny, it's fictictous, yet we've all seen it happen in school or the workplace.......the rumour mill leading to chaos theory.  I just wanted to be certain.

"However, in my experiance when parents stand together to ban something with petitions and loud arguments they tend to win."

Mayhaps, however I mentioned in another post before that a reasonably concise and constructive argument will go a LOT farther than "I don't like it" or "it's trash" or "you'll lose viewers, you know".......to the people who are using the former method, I may not agree but applaud your methods.  To those who are using the latter method, well......

I think there's room for everything.......the danger of being a programmer, especially for kids, is that you want to try to be everything to everyone, and that's just a recipe for disaster......I still suggest that everyone would get what they are looking for is only Treehouse had a West Coast and East Coast feed.......it would be double the programming hours, which would eliminate most of the time-sensitive repetitiveness, opening room for old faves to come back on a daily basis.

And just in case there was any confusion?  I strongly disagree that ANY of the new shows need to be removed.  If you don't like them there are plenty of other things to do than call for the removal of a show that you "just don't like" but countless other people are watching and enjoy.  Let's channel the energy into a solution for everyone, not just to satisfy one specific agenda at the expense of others.

Please , let me help you . If there's another "talent" show to be thought of I'm seriously thinking of never watching Fox again. Even if it means missing Gordon(
