    no more thumb sucking!!!

Hey all. I just took my daughter who will be four soon to her first dentist appointment this week. The doctor told her to stop sucking her thumb and to get rid of her blanket. And by God she has and she has also given me her blanket that she has had since she was one. She has taken her blanket everywhere with her. She did just like that!! We are sooo proud of her!!  We would like to do something special for her but we don't know what . Any ideas guys?? It would help!! Thanks.

Congrats to ur lil one :) Sometimes its easier to follow advice from a third person.
Why dont you ask her what she wants to do? Maybe spend the day out where she wants to go. Depends on how much you want to spend, but as she has given up a 'baby' activity, celebrate her 'grown-up' status (kids love that), and donate her other baby toys or clothes to charity with her, and do up her room maybe....

Hey tiya tiya. Thanks for your suggestions. Her room does need to be redone. We bought her a big girl bed (twin instead of toddler)  that might make her feel like a big girl too!!  We were thinking of letting her pick out a nail polish and doing her nails. I think she might like that. Now we have to work on our two year old son with his pacifier. Any suggestions in that area guys??Big Smile [:D]

    NP :)
DD never took the pacifyier, so I dont have any tried and tested tips. Perhaps dipping it in something bitter (or something the taste of which he dislikes) before giving it to him might do the trick...
Maybe encourage him to give it up like his big sis gave up the blankie...
Will probably take lots of time, and patience on your part... but good luck :)

We've never used one, so personally I've no advice.

But... my friend swears by the Suss-Fairy. She takes un-wanted pacifiers and gives them to babies who need them. If the giver doesn't need a suss after  an agreed  number of days then the fairy leaves a present.

I really like the idea given about the "Suss-Fairy".  I think I may tell my friends of that one (they each have dedicated suckie addicts!).  I was lucky on one hand that my daughter
wouldn't take a soother (She did briefly at 1-2 months, but only upside down!) But on the other hand she is a HUGE thumb-sucker.  She already has an overbite.  She got this from me
and my spouse genetically, but the thumb makes it worse I think.  Any ideas to get her to give it up?  She is two and a half and I really don't think putting hot-sauce on her thumb is a great idea.
(A well-meaning family membe told me that one.)

Hey Craztbrit! Thanks for your suggestion. I have also seen this episode on The Super Nanny. I thought that was a pretty cool idea too. I don't think my son is old enough to understand this idea though. He will only be two in September.

That's possibly where she got it from!

I stole the throwing out of the sippy-cups from there. I was really fed up of DS using his sippy ( although he's 3 and the children on that episode were4 and 5!). Out it went  and he wasn't even bothered. Straight to a "normal" cup. I just wish I had done it earlier.

Sounds border-line abuse if your using something with chilis in. Just imagine if she got it in her eye or on other equally sensitive parts of her body!
