    Miscarriage...

    Hey everyone,
I recently had a miscarriage at around 10 weeks... Its a sad time, and altho I have come to terms with the loss, my body is taking a long time to recover. I have a complete lack of energy which is continuing from the pregnancy itself, and also if I start to do any work around the house I seem to get pain in and around the uterus area.

I have not had a D&C as the doc recommended letting nature take its course. The bleeding is still continuing (3 weeks now). Once its ended, I will have an ultrasound to see if all has cleared up, if not, then the doc will do a D&C.

Was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience, and wished to share if its not too traumatic to do so...

    tiya..

    I'm so sorry for you.

    I've had 2 miscarriages.

The first I had a D&Cwith, though I only had to wait 6days. A very long time , it felt.  But what was worse, they left me on the L&D ward for 5 hrs waiting surgery. I had to arrive at 8.00 and surgery was scheduled for 2.00 pm.

The second was "easier". I knew what to expect. and it was a complete one so I didn't need a D&C.

The physical hurt was much less than the emotional hurt, I found. Plus a lot of people don't know what to say.   I'm finding it difficult.

I used to be such a sweet sweet thing
Till they gotta hold of me.

    Thanx for the sentiments...

Sorry you had to experience it twice. And I still cant believe you had to wait 5 hrs for surgery. Is that a general waiting time here in Canada, or did you just get special treatment?

I know its a tough thing to go thru, altho I have come to terms with the loss, I guess its harder to get over it if the pregnancy is planned. Ours wasnt, as I still dont have health insurance in this country.

Just wondering how long your bleeding lasted in the 2nd miscarriage? I have alternating heavier and lighter days, perhaps heavier on days that I am more active.

    tiya...

    I'm also sorry for u.

I have had 1 miscarriage. I had to wait 7 days for a D&C. It was  awful, the nurses treated me horribly. They left me on the L&D ward for 4 hours waiting for surgery. I was there at 8:00 pm and didn't have surgery until 12:00. Like crazybrit said the emotinal hurt is worse than the physical.

How awful.. looks like a trend. You would think the staff would have some compassion.

I am hoping I dont have to go thru with a D&C, even more so now. Will have to wait for the Ultrasound.

As to why ??? Perhaps to monitor you, certainly I had blood-work and all the other test done there. Including the consent form.

One of the questions was " Are you pregnant? " I found that so funny.....how could I answer yes or no? I was laughing so much the nurses were really worried about me!

On a slighty sadder note, the child I would have had, should have started K on Tuesday.

But my D&C was delayed due to an emergancy C-section...

They forgot to give me the consent form till after I had the D&C. The child I would have had would have been 2 yrs old.

What were they monitoring? why have more tests? Dont they just need to clean up and make sure nothing is left which can cause infection...

I really cant believe the 'Are You Pregnant?' question was on there. How awful to ask someone who is there for a D&C, and more often then not chances are was pregnant. Whats wrong with these people? Glad u took it lightly tho :)

I guess ur lil one would have been the same age as DD, and starting K together. But then u probably wouldnt hav had DS...

I try not to think of things like that. My due date would have been on or around DD's 5th birthday, which I am not likely to forget, but I have already lost count of how many weeks I would have been now, and try not to think about it too much. Im usually a positive person, and try not to focus on the past... :)

Oh nooo! I am losing faith in the health service fast!
I guess its hard to ever come to terms with the loss fully...

Possibly, possibly not I really wanted a boy....

I don't want to go through this next September .

Dunno if its the British upper lip, or just the way I am... I guess I have had my fair share of ups and downs, and now just pick my self up, brush off and move on. Its the easiest way to get thru lifes little hurdles... :)

I think there will always be things or situations which will remind us of our loss, and no doubt cause a little pain when we think back to what could have been.

How many weeks were u when u miscarried? I was 11 weeks when the doc confirmed it, but probably started to miscarry at 9 weeks.

Dont worry, I dont scare so easy... :)
I will just face things as they come. Good to know, so that if the same happens to me, at least I know whats coming.

    1. Heart beat at 10 weeks, nothing at 12. So some time between then. US at 12 wks showed sac, no hb.

    2. hb at 10 wks. Bleeding started 11 weeks and continued . Went to ER. Hormones low, advised to relax( yeah! that was going to happen) as  US showed HB. Bleeding continued, hormones dropped and US at 13 wks showed no sac.

So was the US at 10 wks just a routine one or set up due to concerns?
I was told my OBY/GYN will contact me around 16 weeks for a scan, and not before.

The miscarriage was confirmed by 2 blood tests 48hrs apart checking for hormone levels. The 2nd test showed the hormone level going down.

The doc also told me to relax. All the symptoms I was having are normal during the first trimester - yeah normal for a miscarriage! (bleeding, cramping pains and clots!)
