Hi, my name is Doris but am also known as Dorito, Dee, Door, Hey you, She, and my personal favorite…Her. I am a 37 year old stay at home mother of two <s>crazy</s> beautiful children. My daughter Mo is 6 years old, and my little son LeeLee is 3. I am happily married (most of the time) to my husband Jeff.
I have to warn you that I am not one of those calm, angelic mothers who emit soothing pastel coloured auras whilst beaming beatifically at their children (who incidentally are clad in the latest Gap and Gymboree collections). You know them… the ladies who are super organized, dressed impeccably, use all the appropriate SuperNanny techniques, and send their kids to school with fruit and veggies cut into playful designs in color co-ordinated Tupperware. They remember the dates of their children’s developmental milestones off the top of their heads. They are champion scrap bookers, knitters, chefs and multi-taskers. The Martha Stewarts of mommyhood. I love this type of mom, and if I ever grow up, maybe I can be one too. I wish I could sign up to be an organized mom apprentice or participate in the supermom co-op program or something. *Sigh.*
The reality is that my life is somewhat chaotic. I forget the permission slips, take my daughter to school late more times than I care to admit (I dread showing my husband the report card), and am on a first name basis with the staff at my local McDonald’s drive thru. I know I give my kids too much sugar, probably raise my voice more than I should and can’t seem to keep more than two rooms of my house clean at the same time. I sport a ponytail and yoga pants from Monday to Friday and have gotten to the stage where jeans are considered my ‘good clothes’.
I make lots of mistakes, but I love my kids fiercely and smother them with kisses ad nauseum. I try to instill good values and teach them to be kind and caring to others. And I try my best to expose them to all kinds of different experiences and activities. So I guess I am good at some mommy things, now if I could only get responsible, organized and sane, we’d be in business!
Essentially this blog is going to be about my life as a mom and silly person at large. I hope you’ll check it out and share your opinions, comments and stories.
