About the Show
4 Square is an interactive show that allows preschoolers to explore four separate art forms: song, rhythm, poetry and dance.
Children will enjoy singing along with the Do-Whahs in the song segment; clapping, patting and stamping with the Beat Team in the rhythm segment; reciting the fun-filled poems of Toronto poet laureate, Dennis Lee, in the poetry segment; and dancing along with the energetic dance troupe, Corpus, in the movement segment.
Notes From The Producer
As children generally respond well to bright colours, the orange, blue, green and purple of 4 Square were intentionally chosen to attract the attention of our young audience. In each segment, contrasting colours are used so that what our preschool audience needs to pay attention to is clearly highlighted. The sets are kept simple so that nothing distracts children from learning a new song, poem or dance. Through all of these elements, the producers sought to create a performing arts interactive foundation for preschoolers.
The costumes Corpus dancers wear are consistent with the National Ballet of Canada.
