About the Show
There's no place cozier than the Big Comfy Couch. It's a place to dream and laugh. There are clowns to entice, excite and ignite you. Dolls come to life, and Dustbunnies play games. It's a place of stories, songs and adventure.
Notes From The Producer
The Big Comfy Couch encourages
both physical and mental exploration and celebrates healthy body
awareness. Each episode focuses on a
different aspect of movement and children are encouraged to run, jump, dance,
hop, since, stretch and clean up. At the
heart of each episode is a theme touching on what it feels like to be a
kid. These themes are woven together
through imaginative physical fun, inspired activity and original stories.
Unlike traditional families, Clown
families are a little different and baby clowns arrive in a very different
manner! Loonette floated down under a dreamblanket parachute on the night of a
Fool Moon after all the clowns had a Secret Circus. A Secret Circus is when
clowns perform for each other and make each other laugh SO hard that bubbles of
joy float up to the moon and a baby clown is born. Loonette landed in the
loving arms of Granny Garbanzo, Auntie Macassar and Uncle Chester who have
taken very good care of her ever since.
The 10-second tidy teaches children to tidy up the messes that
are made each day. At the end of each episode, Loonette is actually cleaning up
her house. In this world of
make-believe, the couch that Loonette sits on is her home.
In the latest season, the role of Loonette is now played by
Ramona Gilmour-Darling. Ramona has appeared in leading roles in many regional Canadian
plays and musicals, such as The Secret Garden (Young People's Theatre, 2001),
Anne of Green Gables (2005) and The Beggar's Opera (2006).
Alyson Court who plays Loonette on Big Comfy Couch also does the voice of Nora on Timothy Goes To School (2000). She’s also done voice acting on shows such as Redwall (1999), X-men (1992), Beetlejuice (1989), My Pet Monster (1986), and Ewoks (1985).
Bob Stutt who does Molly Dolly, Dust Bunny and Snicklefritz also does the voice of Gilbert on Caillou (2000), and has done work on The Jim Henson Hour (1989), Fraggle Rock (1983) and Today’s Special (1981).
